Trento is a treasure-trove of European history, including the Gothic-Romanesque Duomo, seat of the Council of Trent. Not-to-be-missed 13th-century sites include the Palazzo Pretorio, the Torre Vanga, and the castle of Buonconsiglio, which houses two museums. The town is graced with many palazzi of the Venetian-Renaissance style and some lovely 15th-century buildings, including the church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Palazzo Tabarelli. After a morning of sightseeing, spend an afternoon sampling the region's finest varietal wines and vintages, including limited production wines not available in retail shops, at the Cavit Enoteca (Via del Ponte de Ravina) at the winery's headquarters in Ravina.
